A hospital in northern Nigeria is still trying to explain how a “plague” doctor treated an elderly patient who died in the hospital, a case that has drawn international attention.
According to the Associated Press, Dr. Abdul Maben Sondiqi, a resident of the city of Chibok, visited the elderly woman in her hospital room, and took her to the hospital’s emergency department.
Sondiwi had been in the ER of the hospital since January, but the patient was still alive.
Sondiwidi allegedly injected the patient with a “surgical needle” and then left her to die in the emergency department, the AP reported.
The woman died from an infection.
Dr. Sindiwi was arrested in January, the first official report on the incident has said.
Sondsiyi was the first physician to receive a death certificate in Nigeria, according to a hospital official who spoke to the AP.
